Tim Healey Newsday Projecting the Mets' 2025 Opening Day roster. Among the final spots, Tim sees Max Kranick and recently signed Jose Urena making the bullpen staff, Brett Baty winning the last bench spot over Luisangel Acuna (I beg to differ based on Acuna's speed and ability to play SS). Tim also has Tylor Megill and the ability to option him to Syracuse losing out to Griffin Canning and Paul Blackburn in the starting rotation.
NY Post: Mets remain bullish on pitching depth as race for final rotation spots takes shape. "Kodai Senga, David Peterson and Clay Holmes have looked strong early as the three certainties in the club’s rotation...Tylor Megill, Griffin Canning and Paul Blackburn have shown health and some promise for a team that likely will keep two of the three in the early-season rotation."
NY Post: Breaking down how battle for Mets’ final roster spot is playing out. "A Mets starting infield that featured Brett Baty at second base, Luisangel Acuña at third and non-roster invitee Luis De Los Santos at shortstop screamed spring training...Those three — plus Donovan Walton — comprise the battle for the final roster spot."
NY Post: Mets’ Francisco Lindor makes spring tweak, hopes to avoid slow April start this time. "He hit just .197 with a .639 OPS in March and April (including a 1-for-31 beginning to his season)...Lindor arrived in camp not necessarily with the goal of starting quickly but of building up slowly. After a lower-back injury that cropped up in Game 147 last season — at a point he had appeared in all 147 games — Lindor hoped to be incremental in preparing his body this spring for a long season."
NY Post: Jose Iglesias signing with Padres after ‘OMG’ hero’s Mets reunion hopes fizzled. "The deal includes an invite to San Diego’s MLB camp and will pay him $3 million this year if he’s in the majors. It also includes $1 million in incentives."
AP Sports: The Mets have spent more in Steve Cohen’s 4 years than Marlins, Pirates and Rays over the past 21. "The New York Mets led the major leagues in spending for the third straight season in 2024 and have totaled $1.36 billion in payroll and luxury tax over four years under owner Steve Cohen, exceeding what the Marlins, Pirates and Rays each have spent on players in the past 21 seasons...The Mets became the first team to lead in payrolls in three straight seasons since the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2014-17."
Jon Heyman NY Post Sports+: The uncomfortable reality Mark Vientos is chasing again after Mets breakout. "A star was being born in October despite heavy restlessness, bordering on sleeplessness. Mark Vientos’ revelatory regular season was merely a nice warmup for what was to come in October, when he rode anxiety and adrenaline to solidify his name in Mets lore in one month — one glorious month...Now 25, he entered this spring training with a guaranteed big league job for the first time in his half-dozen-plus years in the Mets organization. But what he really desires is more moments in the postseason spotlight. (subscription required)

2016 - The Commissioner's office overturns the two-game suspension handed to Dodgers IF Chase Utley for a dangerous slide that injured the Mets' Ruben Tejada in last year's NLDS. The decision is because the rules regarding sliding at the time were too vague; they have since been strengthened.
3/6/2016 Major League Baseball drops Chase Utley’s two-game suspension. Utley was initially suspended for breaking Rubén Tejada’s leg in the 2015 NLDS but MLB chief baseball officer Joe Torre stated that “there wasn't anything clear-cut to say that play violated a rule.” pic.twitter.com/AjW7k83nww
