Game Recap and Highlights: Mauricio Homers, Meyer 2 HR’s as Ponies Blast Squirrels 8-2

RICHMOND, VA – Nick Meyer hit two home runs and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (13-26, 41-67) scored eight unanswered runs in an 8-2 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels (12-27, 52-56) in the series opener Tuesday night at The Diamond.

Binghamton was down 2-0 entering the top of the sixth before Meyer tagged the first pitch he saw from Matt Frisbee (5-8) over the left-field wall to cut the deficit to 2-1. Later in the frame, Brandon McIlwain hit a two-run double that put Binghamton on top 3-2 followed by a Carlos Cortes sacrifice fly that made it 4-2.

The scoring continued in the seventh, as Luke Ritter led off the frame with a double, followed by a walk to Hayden Senger, bringing Meyer to the plate again. Meyer belted a three-run homer to left that broke the game open making it 7-2. It's Meyer's second and third home runs of the year. He finished 2-4 with 4 RBI.

Ronny Mauricio added a solo home run in the ninth, his 22nd of the year and 70th run batted in. Mauricio finished 2-5 with two RBI.

Binghamton starter Garrison Bryant (2-1) went six innings (a season-high since joining the Rumble Ponies) allowing just two hits and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts. Jesus Vargas pitched three scoreless frames in relief with no walks and five strikeouts to earn his first save of the year. 

The two teams continue their series on Wednesday evening with first pitch at 6:35 PM and pregame coverage getting underway at 6:20 PM on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.

Postgame Notes: Rowdey Jordan had a multi-hit game and scored a run…Wyatt Young extended his hitting streak to seven games and his on-base streak to 23 games.
