Brian Joura Mets360: "One night after putting up 17 runs, the Mets found it a little tougher to muster offense. But they rallied back from a 2-0 deficit and used strong relief pitching to earn a 3-2 victory over the A’s Saturday afternoon in Oakland." (Subscription required)
Mike Puma NY Post: Mets rally past A’s late for third straight win. "Canha’s homer leading off the seventh inning awoke the Mets, who had only three hits to that point. The blast to left field that tied the score 2-2 provided a nice homecoming for Canha, who came to the Mets before last season after spending seven years with Oakland."
John Coppinger Kiner's Korner.com Nimmo, Canha, and the bullpen lead Mets to a 3-2 win in Oakland: "Brandon Nimmo's two hits, which included the double that drove in the go ahead run, earned him the seat on the Korner today. Nimmo capped off the Mets' come from behind rally in the 7th inning off former teammate Trevor May to drive home Tim Locastro and give the Mets a 3-2 lead, one that they would not relinquish."
Metstradamus: Hello Oakland, Our Old Friends. "Tell me you expected the game where the ERAs of the starting pitchers were 17.55 and 11.42 to end 3-2. Suuuuuuure ya’ did."
Mets.com: Carrasco moves in right direction in Mets' win over A's "For the first time this season, Carlos Carrasco looked a little more like the pitcher the Mets need him to be...Carrasco managed to complete five innings for the first time in the 2023 campaign...allowing two runs over five-plus frames. It was a welcome departure from his first two starts in which he combined to give up 11 earned runs across 8 2/3 innings."
Sporting News.com: Mets' David Robertson has to close out A's twice after pitch clock violation in huge 9th-inning spot. "Mets reliever David Robertson experienced that unpleasant reality Saturday. He got the Athletics' Kevin Smith looking at Strike 3 to end the game. Or so he thought. Instead, home plate umpire Scott Barry rung Robertson up for a pitch-clock violation and an automatic ball, thus extending the game. Luckily for Robertson, that only made the count 1-2 — still very much a pitcher's count — and he again got Smith looking at Strike 3 to finally end the game."

1964 | Water from the Gowanus Canal, which flows near Dodgers' old home Ebbets Field, and water from the Harlem River, located near the Polo Grounds, once the Giants and the Mets home ballpark, is blessed and used to christened Shea Stadium. The ballpark's namesake, Bill Shea, credited with bringing the National League back to New York, pours the water from two bottles, blessing the Flushing Meadow structure on the eve of its debut. |
1966 | On the second day of the season, Jack Fischer gives up just five hits in his complete-game effort, beating Atlanta at Shea Stadium, 3-1. The win represents the Mets' earliest victory in franchise history. |
2011 - The Mets are swept in a doubleheader for the second time in three days as they go down, 4 - 2 and 4 - 0, to the Atlanta Braves. In the second game, Jair Jurrjens throws seven shutout innings in his return from the disabled list, while Alex Gonzalez is the hero in the opener, hitting two of the Braves' four solo homers in support of Derek Lowe's pitching. The Mets have now lost seven in a row.
2013: The Rockies battle the elements to sweep the Mets in a doubleheader at home. The opener is delayed by two hours as an 8-inch snowfall has to be removed from the field, with Colorado owner Dick Monfort pitching in by manning a shovel, and the day concludes when Jordan Pacheco singles home the winning run in the 10th inning of the second game, for a 9 - 8 win. The Rockies also win the opener, 8 - 4, as the games are played in frigid conditions and occasional snow flurries. Reporters quip that there are more snowmen than fans at Coors Field.
2015: Giancarlo Stanton becomes the Marlins all-time leading home run hitter when he slugs #155 for his career off Dillon Gee of the Mets. He was tied with Dan Uggla since being hit in the face with a pitch late in the 2014 season. However, the Mets go on to win, 7 - 5.
