From the Giants 7 Mets 2 Post Game Notes - 5/25/2024:
- Mets:
- Move to 3-6 in extra-inning games this season.
- Suffered their fourth loss this season when leading after eight innings.
- Luis Severino:
- Threw 5.1 no-hit innings before allowing a single to Brett Wisely...Was his second-longest no-hit bid of the season...Threw 7.0 no-hit innings before allowing a hit to start the eighth on April 29 vs. Chicago-NL.
- Has a 2.00 ERA (8 ER/36.0 IP) in six home starts this season, the 10th-lowest mark in the majors (Min. 30.0 IP at home)...Is the third-lowest mark in franchise history by a pitcher in their first six home starts with the team...Only Al Leiter (1.21) and Rick Reed (1.67) had a lower home ERA in their first six starts in Queens with the club.
- Brett Baty:
- Launched a go-ahead solo homer in the seventh...Was his first home run at Citi Field since his pinch-hit three-run homer on March 30 vs. Milwaukee (61 home at-bats).
- Starling Marte:
- Put the Mets on the board with a solo homer in the second...Has homered twice in his last four games after not homering in his previous 23 games.
- Pablo Reyes:
- The Mets today acquired minor league infielder Pablo Reyes from the Red Sox in exchange for cash considerations...Reyes will report to Triple-A Syracuse.
NY Post: Edwin Diaz blows another save before Mets implode in 10th against Giants for fifth straight loss. "Another day, another back-breaking loss for the Mets. And Edwin Diaz was once again largely responsible for it. The closer — just put back into that role by Carlos Mendoza on Saturday, blew a save in the top of the ninth and the Mets went on to lose their fifth straight game, this one 7-2 in 10 innings to the Giants."
Brian Joura Mets360: "Luis Severino allowed just one run in seven innings and Adam Ottavino pitched a scoreless eighth. Diaz allowed a single to the leadoff hitter and after an out and a stolen base, he gave up a game-tying hit."

NY Post:
- Joel Sherman NY Post: Mets season going down fast, and it’s taking 2025 with it. "The Mets had plotted wild-card contention this year and to begin to take off in 2025. But it is hard not to feel worse about both propositions at present...The convergence of ineptitudes that are dooming 2024 hardly bodes well for the Mets’ near future as well...Edwin Diaz, who has forgotten how to save games, and Kodai Senga, who keeps getting further away from a return, are signed through 2027...Which is why the biggest Mets positive Saturday happened before the game. For the first time since tearing a ligament in his left thumb on April 19, Francisco Alvarez took batting practice."

Transactions:
New York Mets released Bobby Pfeil on May 26, 1970.
New York Mets signed free agent Terry Leach on May 26, 1984.
New York Mets traded Geremi Gonzalez to the Milwaukee Brewers for Mike Adams on May 26, 2006.
New York Mets purchased Wilson Valdez from the Cleveland Indians on May 26, 2009.
1964 | In front of a meager crowd of 2,503 fans at Wrigley Field, the visiting Mets set a franchise record for runs scored when the team pummels the Cubs, 19-1. New York's 25 year-old first baseman Dick Smith, batting leadoff, becomes the first player in franchise history to collect five hits in a game, nearly 20% of season total of 21, when he collects a double, a triple, and three singles. |
2011 - New York Mets owner Fred Wilpon sells a minority stake in the team to investor David Einhorn for $200 million. Wilpon's financial troubles, stemming from losses incurred in the Bernard Madoff fraudulent investment scheme, and from a $1 billion lawsuit from other victims of Madoff's fraud, have been much talked about in recent weeks; the sale should give him some financial breathing room.
2012: Mets P Johan Santana shows his old form, shutting out the Padres on 4 hits and fewer than 100 pitches. Scott Hairston hits a three-run homer in the 1st, soon followed by 32-year-old Vinny Rottino's first big league homer to stake Santana an early 4 - 0 lead. The Mets put the game away with 5 runs off Dale Thayer in the 8th, topped by a grand slam by Mike Nickeas.
