"He doesn't dwell on past successes and failures. He keeps grinding with it. That's a common denominator of guys that drive in runs and do the things that Pete does."

Mike Puma NY Post: Red-hot Pete
Alonso belts two homers as Mets clip Marlins. “Alonso leads the
National League with 22 homers and 68 RBIs in a season that won’t reach the
midway point until next weekend. His two blasts on this day gave him four,
including a grand slam last weekend, over eight games.”
SNY.TV: Mets takeaways from Saturday's 5-3 win over Marlins, including Pete Alonso's two-homer day. “Making his second straight start against the Marlins, Chris Bassitt breezed through his first three innings before allowing a two-run homer to Jesus Sanchez in the fourth (which would have been a three-run shot if not for a great throw from Starling Marte to nab a runner at third.”

Newsday:
- Mets closer Edwin Diaz caught going personal best 102.6 mph;
- Mets' Pete Alonso slugs two home runs, including winner in eighth to beat Marlins;
- Mets’ Max Scherzer is making one more rehab start: ‘got a little sore’ ” Max Scherzer’s mantra as he approaches his return to the Mets is: avoid a physical setback at all costs. That measured approach is taking him back to the minor leagues for at least one more rehab start. The right-hander expects that start will occur Tuesday at a minor league affiliate still to be determined.
- Jacob deGrom
gives Mets more signs of life; “The Mets ace threw one
inning (20 pitches), according to pitching coach Jeremy Hefner, and is lined up
for a third live batting practice in the coming days. After that session, he
may be evaluated for a potential minor league rehab appearance.”
Mets360:

President John F. Kennedy delivers his iconic "Ich bin ein
Berliner" (I am a Berliner) speech from the steps of the Rathaus

Rusty Staub
ties the single-season record with his eighth consecutive pinch hit. 'Le

Three days after Jim Riggleman's sudden resignation, the

remainder of the season. The 68 year-old former skipper compiled an 1148-888
(.564) record during his 14 years in the dugout with the Mets, Dodgers, Reds,
and Orioles, finishing lower than third place on only three occasions. |

club-record-tying losing streak at 13 games, their longest loss streak
since 1944.
2009: Brett Gardner collects five hits, including a triple and a homer, as
the Yankees beat
the Mets, 9 -
1, before a record-breaking crowd at Citi Field. Alex Rodriguez hits home run number 564 of his career, passing Reggie Jackson on the all-time list; Jackson was 6th at the time of his
retirement in 1987 but falls to 12th now.
